About Dr. Gonsales
Two decades of research. One through-line: what causes people to disengage — and what brings them back.
I spent more than twenty years inside schools as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and personnel officer. I watched brilliant people — students, educators, leaders — quietly disappear from themselves. Not all at once. Gradually. The light in their eyes dimming before anyone noticed it was gone.
That pattern became the foundation of my doctoral research. At a school on Oahu's North Shore, I studied chronic absenteeism and student disengagement — not just as attendance problems, but as symptoms of something deeper. What I found were five recurring disconnections: from identity, visibility, relevance, direction, and influence. Five places where people lose the thread of who they are and why it matters.

I moved to Hawaiʻi from California to pursue a lifelong dream — and in doing so, I discovered something unexpected. The work wasn't finished. It was just beginning. When my mother's cognitive decline made her vulnerable to predatory actors online, I understood firsthand what it means to watch someone you love lose their footing in a world moving faster than they can navigate.
That experience deepened my conviction: people deserve guidance that meets them where they actually are. Not where the technology wants them to be. Not where the market assumes they should be. Where they are.
Today I channel that research and that conviction into two ventures. The Inner Compass Collective™ serves experienced women leaders navigating AI adoption and career transition — helping them lead from clarity, not from fear. WiseStep AI supports kūpuna — older adults — in building safe, confident relationships with technology on their own terms.
The through-line has never changed. Twenty-four years in education. Two companies. One Ed.D. from Liberty University. One purpose: helping people find their way back to themselves.
